How to Copy Multiple Items on Mac
The Mac clipboard holds only one item, so each copy replaces the last. To copy multiple items, use a clipboard manager such as Clipboardly, which saves everything you copy so you can paste any of it later. On macOS Tahoe, Spotlight’s clipboard history (⌘Space, then ⌘4) keeps recent copies for up to 7 days. In Finder, copy several files together.
- One clipboard, one item: macOS replaces it each time you copy.
- macOS Tahoe: Spotlight keeps recent copies (⌘Space, then ⌘4).
- A clipboard manager keeps every copy, searchable and organized.
Copy several files at once in Finder
- Hold ⌘ and click each file, or drag a box around them.
- Press ⌘C, go to the destination folder and press ⌘V.
Use Spotlight clipboard history (macOS Tahoe)
Copy items one after another, then press ⌘Space and ⌘4 to see them and pick one to copy again. It keeps up to 7 days and can't pin items. See how to see clipboard history on Mac.
Use a clipboard manager
With Clipboardly, copy as many things as you like, then paste any of them:
- Copy each item with ⌘C as usual.
- In the app where you want to paste, press ⌘⇧X.
- Type a few letters of the item and press Return. Repeat for the next one.
Set a board active first and everything you collect lands in one place, ready for later. Download Clipboardly; it's free.

Frequently asked questions
Can a Mac hold more than one thing on the clipboard?
No. The system clipboard holds one item at a time. macOS Tahoe adds a short history in Spotlight, and clipboard managers keep a full history.
How do I paste multiple items at once on Mac?
Copy them as one selection if you can. Otherwise use a clipboard manager: press its shortcut, pick an item, paste, and repeat for the next.
