How to See Clipboard History on Mac (3 Easy Ways)

Short answer

On macOS Tahoe (macOS 26), press ⌘Space to open Spotlight, then ⌘4 to see your recent clipboard history. On older versions of macOS there is no clipboard history: Finder’s Edit > Show Clipboard only shows the last thing you copied. To keep everything you copy and search it later, use a clipboard manager such as Clipboardly and press ⌘⇧V.

Key takeaways
  • macOS Tahoe: ⌘Space, then ⌘4 shows recent copies (kept for up to 7 days).
  • Older macOS: Finder → Edit → Show Clipboard shows only the current item.
  • A clipboard manager keeps your full history, lets you pin and organize clips, and pastes with a shortcut.

1. Use Spotlight clipboard history (macOS Tahoe)

If your Mac runs macOS Tahoe (macOS 26) or later, Spotlight keeps a history of what you copy.

  1. Press ⌘Space to open Spotlight.
  2. Press ⌘4 to switch to clipboard history. The first time, macOS asks you to turn it on.
  3. Pick an item to copy it again, then paste it with ⌘V.

You can choose how long items are kept (30 minutes, 8 hours or 7 days) and clear the history in System Settings → Spotlight. There's no way to pin an item so it stays longer. More in macOS Tahoe clipboard history: how it works and its limits.

2. Use Finder’s Show Clipboard (any macOS)

  1. Click the Finder icon in the Dock, or any empty spot on the desktop.
  2. In the menu bar, choose Edit → Show Clipboard.

A window shows what's on your clipboard right now. It's only the latest item: as soon as you copy something else, the previous one is gone.

3. Use a clipboard manager (keeps everything)

A clipboard manager records everything you copy, so nothing is lost when you copy something new. With Clipboardly:

  1. Download Clipboardly, drag it to Applications and open it.
  2. Allow clipboard access when asked. Everything you copy from now on is saved.
  3. Press ⌘⇧V in any app, type a few letters and press Return to paste.

You can also click the Clipboardly icon in the menu bar to browse your history, filter by type (links, images, code, colors…), pin favorites, and lock sensitive clips behind a PIN.
